Job Description

About the Department

Play a key role in keeping County facilities safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings, equipment, and grounds by following established procedures, technical specifications, and supervisor direction.

Position Duties

Working under the Facilities Manager and the Shift Lead, you’ll contribute to a wide range of building and grounds maintenance activities, including:

  • Building Systems & Operations
    • Operate and monitor boilers to ensure consistent heating and hot water supply
    • Test and treat boiler systems; perform minor repairs and prepare units for inspection
    • Maintain heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, including electronic controls
    • Inspect, install, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, and piping
    • Maintain electrical systems, circuits, and equipment
  • Repairs & Maintenance
    • Repair and maintain furniture, fixtures, and building components using hand and power tools
    • Perform carpentry, painting, varnishing, caulking, and basic cement work
    • Perform locksmith duties as needed
  • Grounds & Exterior Care
    • Maintain landscaping, including mowing lawns, planting, and caring for flowers and shrubs
    • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas
    • Clean exterior windows and assigned areas
  • General Operations Support
    • Transport and dispose of waste and recyclables
    • Unload and stock materials and supplies
    • Maintain and refuel vehicles and equipment
    • Follow preventive maintenance programs and complete work orders
    • Respond to emergency maintenance calls
    • Secure buildings and offices as needed
  • Additional Duties
    • Perform other related tasks as assigned to support departmental operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical training or hands-on experience in building maintenance or related trades
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC/refrigeration, and general mechanics
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and safety standards
  • Basic computer skills for work orders, systems, and communication
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently

Other Qualifications

This role involves both indoor and outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions. You may be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and mechanical or electrical hazards.

The position requires:

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working at heights or in confined spaces
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds
  • Visual and auditory ability to safely perform inspections and operate equipment
