Job Description

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   9 Months According to School Calendar
QUALIFICATIONS:    (Full and Part Time positions available)

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated record of successful employment. 
  3. Valid CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
  4. Valid CPR/First Aid Certificates.
  5. Educational Aide Permit with Highly Qualified (ESEA) endorsement through the Department of Education.
  6. Must be able to physically guide students.
  7. Willing to participate in special education in-services through Board of Education-approved training facilities.
  8. Experience working with students with disabilities.
  9. Ability to adapt the individual children’s special needs to the curriculum standards.
  10. Must be able to provide students with physical assistance.
  11. Training or experience in strategies with Autism, including sensory integration, communication development, visual schedules, and applied behavioral intervention.
  12. Emotional maturity and stability with a positive cheerful outlook.
  13. Ability to interact well with parents and district staff.
  14. Ability to move up and down from the floor to work with children.
  15. Must be able to act with low emotion and consistently implement a three-part behavioral plan with daily documentation, skills in maintaining calmness, and minimizing stressful situations.
  16. Must complete all training as required by Sylvania Schools and/or the Ohio Department of Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  2. Communicate appropriately with students at individual levels of ability.
  3. Distribute and collect materials for instruction.
  4. Follow intervention strategies for children as recommended by teacher(s) or therapists.
  5. Supervise students while they work, answer questions, explain directions, and give appropriate assistance.
  6. Use computer, scribe, or take notes for students if required.
  7. Maintain awareness of classroom while attending to safety concerns.
  8. Accompany students to and from bus if necessary.
  9. Assist in preparing daily materials.
  10. Keep documentation of student progress as directed by teacher.
  11. Show respect and maintain confidentiality of all students and their families.
  12. Provide assistance with feeding, toileting, hygiene management, wheelchair use, and physical transfers for student(s).  Some students may need special assistance with tube feeding and catheterization.
  13. Implement specific strategies for students as identified through IEP or behavior plan.
  14. Responsible to enter personal absences and Clock In/Out via the Red Rover System.
  15. Responsible to check your district email account on a regular basis, and to communicate as needed via email. 
  16. Perform other tasks and assume responsibility from building administration as necessary to promote student success and achievement.
