Description
The Archives Office is searching for student interns currently enrolled in a four year program at an accredited institution. The student internship is unpaid.
Work Schedule: Work day(s) and times will be based on the student's schedule.
Requirements
Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist in daily requests for referential and sacramental information.
- Assist in a project based on specific interests of study in archival studies, records management, and/or digitization.
- Projects may include inventorying, arranging, describing, and cataloging of records.
- Understand the different forms of Archives (types, reasons, history).
- Review archival standards used and utilize reference guides.
- Perform a small collection and do a basic inventory of the collection; may also be an artifact drawer.
- Review a small collection and establish a plan for arrangement using DAC's standards as the guide. Meet to discuss and get plan arranged. If time permits, begin arrangement and rehousing if necessary.
- Learn about describing collections with DAC standards. Describe the collection, do background research on the agency, persons of interest, and events found in the collection. Search of related collections.
- Identify key items that are representative of the collection in importance and scan using archival standards, name the files and catalog into the Content Manager.
- The Intern will perform project related work in their field and will be required to provide a summary of their work at the conclusion of their internship.
- The intern will operate under the supervision and mentoring of an Archdiocesan professional.
- The intern will have an opportunity to connect with personnel across the organization and provide real solutions to situations involved.
- Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
- Adherence to the Archdiocese of San Antonio’s Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
- Every intern is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Enrolled in a four (4) year program at an accredited institution.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
- Must have good written and verbal skills
- Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills
