Key responsibilities include:
Database developers differ from DBAs (Database Administrators), as developers focus more on creating the database structures to fit application needs, while administrators focus on the upkeep and performance of the infrastructure itself.
- Database Design: Modeling data structures (tables, relations, constraints) to meet business requirements.
- Query Optimization: Monitoring system performance and rewriting inefficient SQL code to improve speed and efficiency.
- Development & Integration:
- Data Migration & ETL: Moving data from external sources and developing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
- Security & Maintenance: Ensuring data security, creating backups, and producing documentation.
