Evening Custodian III
Compensation and Representation:
The Evening Custodian III is a classified staff member represented by the International Union of Operating
Engineers/Custodians (IUOE/Custodians) and is compensated according to the IUOE/Custodians Salary
Schedule.
Essential Job Functions:
This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed
while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations are made to enable

● Prepares and inspects school to ensure that heating, lighting and ventilating systems are functioning and
security/safety measures are taken at all times
● Performs minor repairs such as painting, repairing small holes in walls, replacing acoustical ceiling tiles,
fixing furniture, clearing drains and toilets and other repairs as needed
● Replaces HVAC filters and maintain maintenance logs as needed
● Checks building and grounds for vandalism and safety hazards and takes corrective action
● Inspects playground equipment, fence lines and retention areas
● Cleans specific areas to provide a sanitary and safe environment
● Vacuums, dusts, mops, sweeps, cleans bathrooms and showers, picks up and empties trash, changes light
bulbs, fills soap and paper product containers, removes graffiti and performs a wide variety of custodial
and cleaning services
● Responds to emergencies
● Moves and rearranges furniture within the school for events, assemblies, food service, public use and
other functions
● Assists staff and students in locating needed equipment
● Operates power-cleaning equipment of all types
● Participates in staff and department meetings
● Works collaboratively within the professional learning community of the school and district
● Reports to work with regular and reliable attendance and punctuality
● Upholds board policy, district and building policies and goals
● Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
● Inspects school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations,
maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism,
equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Must be able to read and write in English to support the needs of the position
Additional Requirements:
● Must possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
● Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s license

● Required to travel to various sites and may be required to be on call for emergencies
● Pre-employment physical capacity test required
Preferred Qualifications:
● Two years experience as a school custodian preferred
● Certification of training in advanced housekeeping (or its equivalent) preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Knowledge of efficient custodial practices, which includes care and use of equipment, cleaning, minor
maintenance and care of grounds
● Knowledge of the principles of heating, ventilation, sanitation and care of school buildings
● Knowledge of all types of custodial supplies
● Knowledge of floor refinishing and carpet care
● Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing
● Ability to use a computer to complete work requests and other computer related functions
● Ability to establish and maintain working relationships that foster efficiency and productivity and
promote cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, students, faculty and the public
● Must be dependable and punctual in the performance of responsibilities
● Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision and possess leadership skills
● Must be able to stand, walk, push/pull, bend/stoop, handle/grasp, twist, climb, kneel, crouch, reach, hear
and see
● Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, directions regarding precautions and
recommended use of chemicals, equipment or products
● Must be willing and able to abide by safety rules/standards and wear required safety equipment
● Must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted

Working Conditions:
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Inspects school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations,
maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment
breakage, weather conditions, etc.
Occasional exposure to weather. Moderate physical demand, occasionally required to lift and carry objects
weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and push/pull with up to fifty (50) pounds of force. Must be able to walk up to 500
feet at a time and climb stairs as needed.
The District operates on a fiscal year from September 1st through August 31st. Those employees who do not
work the full year are paid over a 12-month period. This means that during the school year the monthly pay

warrants will be approximately 1/12 of the school year earnings, which allows the employee to receive a pay
warrant during the summer months.
