Summary
An employee in this position performs a variety of building, facility, and equipment maintenance and repair activities focusing on mechanical maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. An employee performs tasks at a variety of buildings and surrounding grounds and may involve serving as part of a two-person team. Work is performed with significant independent initiative and basic knowledge of trade practices and skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair various equipment such as automated and hydraulic gates, bag belt systems, fire protection systems, and roll-up doors
- Drive and operate a variety of vehicles/equipment, including bucket trucks, dump trucks, pickup trucks, skid steers, and snow equipment
- Operate power tools and basic trade tools
- Identify specifics for parts and materials needed to complete tasks and coordinate with inventory control technician
- Maintain and clean industrial spaces (pressure washing, painting, debris clean-up)
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment
- Participate in snow removal operations and respond to after-hours emergencies involving various maintenance needs
- Make repairs and maintain plumbing systems
- Complete basic electrical repairs
- Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with the methods, tools, and equipment used in the assigned tradesBasic electrical troubleshooting skills
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to operate large equipment
- Maintain availability to be on call on a rotating schedule
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem-solving situations
- Ability to operate motorized equipment of various types and sizes
- Ability to operate a two-way radio, computer terminal, and telephone
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to exercise independent initiative
- Ability to communicate courteously with the public, coworkers, and supervisors
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of HVAC and related systems such as boilers, valves, and pumps
- HVAC, electrical, or similar certification in the maintenance or mechanical fields
Minimum Requirements
- High school or equivalent, associate’s degree, or trade education, and 0-1 year of relevant required
- Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination
- Hold and maintain valid U.S. driver's license with 3 years of verifiable driving history
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- This position requires grasping, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
- Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time
- Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks
- Adequate vision, hearing, range of motion, and speech required
- Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain
- Ability to operate outdoors in all seasons and occasionally extreme temperatures
- Ability to work at heights sometimes exceeding 40 feet
- Ability to lift 40 lbs
Conditions of Employment
The Authority’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the Authority. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to reference checks, social security verification, criminal conviction record check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle records check.
