Description
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Health & Well-Being, the position’s primary goal is to provide a safe environment for all participants and members while ensuring superior member service. As well as supervise all Health & Well-Being areas for safety and cleanliness, along with assisting members in accordance with the objectives and policies set forth by the Association.
Requirements
CORE EXPECTATIONS:
1. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Supervision of the Health & Well-Being operations during all times and programs. Actively engaged in supervising staff, members and participants, guiding and redirecting any areas of concern.
2. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Assists in training, managing, developing, coaching, and directing staff and volunteers as needed. Give constant feedback to management regarding staff performance. Give regular feedback on the spot to staff with regards to their performance. Partner with management for all staff performance that could be cause for concern or be a delicate issue. Assist with annual performance appraisals. Develops strategies to motivate and coach staff on an ongoing basis. Be direct link in communication to staff regarding session schedules, evaluations, required trainings, and any pertinent changes to policies, schedules, etc.
3. MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Provides welcoming member service. Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause. The individual will also be actively seeking member/participant interaction and feedback. They will be available for member services when needed.
4. FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Monitors Health & Well-Being operations to adhere to all state, local laws and YMCA health and safety regulations. Assist in providing an area that is clean, safe and well maintained at all times. Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and communicate to management any deficiencies in quantity and or quality of all equipment on floor.
5. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
6. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

Qualifications:
- Associate/Bachelor degree in health, fitness, physical education or related field preferred.
- Certification (preferred) in one of the following: ACSM, ACE Personal Trainer, or similar certification from a nationally recognized organization.
- Poise and professionalism when addressing concerns and interacting with people, including issues of confidentiality.
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Red Cross CPR/AED & First Aid Certifications
- The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, members, community leaders and other agencies is critical to this position. Effective teaching skills, the ability to deliver excellent member service, and a high level of enthusiasm are required.
- Demonstrated skills in staff and volunteer development and supervision are important to this position.
- Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated poise and professionalism when addressing concerns and interacting with people.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds (more if able).
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
