Job Title: CNC Machinist
Reports to: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Summary:
The CNC Machinist is responsible for programming, setup, and operation of CNC and manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and related machinery, to produce complex, high-precision components. This position requires a high level of technical skill in machining practices, blueprint interpretation, tooling selection, and process optimization. The Machinist is expected to independently take parts from print to finished product, including setup, prove-out, and verification, with minimal supervision.
This role also directly supports production through tooling setups, equipment modifications, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts to improve efficiency, reliability, and overall manufacturing performance.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce complex parts to specification
- Use CAM software to develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs; edit G-code as needed
- Operate manual machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.)
- Read and interpret blueprints and identify/report errors
- Select appropriate tooling, work holding, and machining strategies
- Perform full machine setups including fixturing, offsets, and prove-outs
- Inspect and measure completed parts; adjust processes as required
- Troubleshoot machining and process issues and implement corrective actions
- Optimize machining processes (cycle time, tool life, consistency)
- Perform minor equipment/tooling repairs and rebuilds
- Fabricate, modify, and repair components
- Support production line changeovers and daily operations
- Provide technical support to production and maintenance
- Maintain work area organization and safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must provide own hand tools
Performance Expectations:
- Independently complete machine setups, including tooling selection, offsets, and prove-outs, without reliance on others
- Consistently produce parts within specified tolerances (including tight tolerances such as ±.001 or as required by print)
- Demonstrate the ability to take a part from print to completion with minimal supervision
- Maintain low scrap rates during setup and production runs; identify and correct issues quickly
- Accurately interpret blueprints and GD&T without repeated clarification
- Effectively troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions without delay
- Maintain consistent productivity while balancing quality and efficiency
- Contribute to process improvements, cost savings, and increased reliability of equipment and tooling
- Provide effective technical support to production with minimal disruption to operations
- Maintain a high level of accountability, ownership, and follow-through on assigned work

Qualifications / Education / Experience:
- Must be a have 5 years of qualified/verifiable CNC programming experience.
- The following is preferred but not required:
- 5 years of manual machining experience
- Qualified Journeyman Machinist
