JOB TITLE: Endoscopy Technician 



SCHEDULE: 32 hours a week (.8fte) 



COMPENSATION: $27.10 — $41.35 



POSITION SUMMARY: 



Under the direction of a Charge RN, prepares all equipment for endoscopic procedures, cleans equipment properly using appropriate protocols and procedures, prepares equipment for repair and tracks repairs, and assists in all Endoscopic procedures for the proper operation Gastroenterology Endoscopic unit.

  • Assisting physician with endoscopy procedures. 







  • Assuring patient has a signed consent before start of procedure if delegated. 







  • Clerical responsibilities include answering telephones and correctly relaying messages, processing charges if needed, preparing patient chart before procedure if directed. 







  • Knowing and supporting District mission, policies, procedures, protocols and standards. 







  • Assisting in procedure room for inter-procedure Gastroenterology assistance during biopsy and other testing.

  • Participant in unit-based Quality Improvement Program in an effort toward improving patient care.

The Endoscopy Technician strengthens relationships with patients, staff, and care team partners by: 





  • Preparing endoscopy room, including physical environment and equipment; informs RN of equipment that needs to be replaced or repaired. 







  • Monitoring appropriate stock levels in Endoscopy and notifies RN of any needed supplies. Incorporates positive guest relations with patient, family and healthcare team. 





Key Responsibilities 





  • Prepares endoscopy room, including physical environment and equipment; informs RN of equipment that needs to be replaced or repaired. 







  • Assures equipment is in good working order; maintains records of equipment sent for repair or ordered as replacement equipment. 







  • Cleans and disinfects equipment; processes and sterilizes equipment according to SVH/SGNA protocol. 







  • Assists physician with endoscopy procedures. 







  • Assures patient has a signed consent before start of procedure if delegated. 







  • Appropriately handles all tissue/specimens: 







  • Prepares cytology slides and pathology specimens assuring the correct fixation and orientation, and delivers to proper area in Lab. 







  • Assists with transportation of patients to and from the Endo suite under the direction of the RN. 







  • Documents appropriately on the treatment record and charge form. 







  • Maintains endoscopy unit in a clean, organized manner. 







  • Monitors appropriate stock levels in Endoscopy and notifies RN of any needed supplies. Incorporates positive guest relations with patients, family, and healthcare team. 







  • Maintains confidentiality of patient records. 







  • Attends department meetings and in-service programs: 







  • Clerical responsibilities include answering telephones and correctly relaying messages, processing charges if needed, preparing patient chart before procedure if directed. 







  • Knows and supports District mission, policies, procedures, protocols and standards. 







  • Has a working knowledge of BLS and the District's/hospital's fire and disaster plans. 







  • Assists with Quality Assurance activities related to equipment, physical environment and patient care. 







  • Assists in procedure room for inter-procedure Gastroenterology assistance during biopsy and other testing. 







  • Participant in the unit-based Quality Improvement Program in an effort toward improving patient care. 







  • Performs any other related duties as directed by the RN. 





QUALIFICATIONS: 



Required Education:  





  • High school or GED Current, unencumbered,  







  • Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) or Medical Assistant (MA) license or Surgical Technologist certification in Washington State. National Endoscopy Technician Certification preferred.  







  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.  







  • Qualified candidates must be able to successfully complete the GI Scope Certification Exam upon meeting eligibility requirements within one year of assuming position. 





Required Experience: 2 years of experience in healthcare with certification in either CNA, MA or other Tech position. 



 



WORK ENVIRONMENT: Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids and other conditions common to a clinical environment. 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finer dexterity and hand-eye coordination.  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  Requires ability in emergency situations to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under changing conditions or working irregular hours.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements – Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
