FLSA:EXEMPT


QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Certified school nurse with current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana
2. Have at least two years in the practice of nursing
3. Ancillary Louisiana certificate must be acquired within first six months of employment and maintained thereafter


 


REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Nursing Services


 


JOB GOAL: To assist the Coordinator of School Nursing Services in developing, achieving, and maintaining comprehensive nursing care services for identified students in Rapides Parish


 


TERM: Nine Months


 


SALARY: Nurse Salary Schedule


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. To assist in planning and implementing policies and procedures that pertain to the
responsibilities of the school nurse as stated in Nursing Service manual and board
approved policies
II. To provide nursing care only for students by performing various types of procedures on
identified special education students who may be listed as a health-related, related service
on the IEP (i.e., catheterization, blood sugar level, etc.)
III. To establish and maintain adequate health records, medication/procedure logs and daily
progress sheets on special education students
IV. To provide consultative services regarding health related issues to parents, students,
regular education and special education teachers of identified special education students
V. To obtain yearly updates on all doctor’s orders and procedures for special education
students who require nursing care
VI. To attend all inservice health programs and workshops designed for professional growth
and development
VII. To establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation plan
VIII. To work effectively with school personnel and staff
IX. To consistently demonstrate self-direction
X. To exhibit professional ethics
XI. To foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel and staff
XII. To foster open communication and positive relationships with the community
XIII. To perform any other nursing duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Nursing Services
and the Director of Special Education
XIV. To follow state and School Board policies
XV. Assist coworkers in the completion of tasks and ensure continuity of service.
XVI. Orient new coworkers and actively support teamwork throughout the school system.
