Description
Sunnyside Retirement Community is actively seeking a highly motivated COTA (PRN) to join the Rehabilitation Services team. Our COTAs are essential team members who build genuine relationships with residents, making a difference in the lives of our residents, their loved-ones, and the community. It is critical that the selected candidate(s) effectively and respectfully communicate both verbally and written with anyone they may come into contact with, including but not limited to; residents, their family, guests, co-workers, team-leaders, and more. The selected candidate(s) will assist in providing rehabilitative services to facilitate the development and treatment of injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Assist patients in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining the skills needed for daily living and work.
Duties:
- Provides services under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist.
- Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with an occupational therapist by teaching techniques, such as the proper method of transferring from a bed into a wheelchair and the best way to stretch and limber muscles.
- Evaluates the living skills and capabilities of physically, developmentally, and emotionally disabled patients.
- Assists in the selection of activities and the development of treatment plans to help patients to function independently.
- Observe, monitor, and record patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior, provide superiors feedback, and recommend changes to their treatment plans.
- Instructs patients and their families on in-home programs, basic living skills, and the care and use of adaptive equipment.
- Performs routine tasks, such as helping patients achieve stretches and teaching patients to use specific equipment.
- Uses various tools and equipment, such as special lifts or pulleys, to move patients.
- Documents patient care services according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.
- Leads by example and exhibits professionalism at all times.
- Holds themselves accountable and encourage collaboration and flexibility within the department and interdepartmental teamwork for positive outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited therapy program
- Experience: 2-3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Licenses/Certifications: Current COTA licensure, CPR certification.

Work Environment: Normal lighting levels, temperature ranges, air quality, ventilation and noise levels.Physical Demands: Physical stamina to lift, transfer and assist patients through physical activities.Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs. unassisted, including assisting patients when needed.Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the phone.Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.Work Hazards: Contact with blood, body fluids and other infectious drainage. Minimal hazards if required Universal Precautions are followed.
