Adjunct Clinical Teaching Assistant, Pre-Licensure Programs, College of Nursing

Xavier University is seeking qualified candidates to join our pool of potential adjunct faculty for the 2026-2027 academic year. This posting is intended to collect applications for in-person, part-time, non-tenure-track position for an Adjunct Instructor within the Xavier University College of Nursing.

Candidates must be dedicated to graduate or undergraduate teaching and demonstrate excellence in their field.  The successful candidate will contribute to our commitment to excellence in teaching and student engagement.

Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, and candidates may be contacted as teaching needs arise. Adjunct faculty contracts are issued on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on departmental needs and student enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications (as evidenced on the resume):

  • Active RN Ohio Licensure with number(s) clearly listed.
  • Two years of employment in the course subject area.
    • Preferred: 2 years of employment within the past 5 years (ex: med-surg, mental health, pediatrics, critical care, etc.)
  • BSN Degree, MSN preferred (only applicable to positions in the BSN prelicensure program)
    • must demonstrate current certifications, preceptor/orienting experience, annual continuing education, list of graduate courses completed and expected graduation date(s).
  • MSN Degree (required for positions in the MIDAS prelicensure program). 
  • A separate self-disclosed competency of basic nursing skills and procedures may be required.  

Duties include:

  • Assist and work at the direction of a faculty member (course coordinator) providing instruction in the laboratory and/or clinical setting.
  • Attend and follow the assigned clinical agency orientation and guidelines.
    • Must be medically cleared and able to perform to Xavier and hospital(s) policies.
  • Facilitate the student’s clinical experience to achieve the objectives of the nursing course.
  • Clarify with the faculty member (course coordinator/lead);
    • the role of the teaching assistant in each course
    • the responsibilities of the faculty member regarding final grades
    • the course and clinical objectives
    • the clinical experience evaluation tool(s)  
  • Demonstrate the ability to model professional behavior, communicate effectively, and utilize best practice (evidenced based) guidelines in the clinical and/or laboratory setting that reflects current nursing practice/standards.
  • Follow Xavier University College of Nursing and the clinical facilities’ policies on protected health information.
  • Model the mission, vision, and values of Xavier University College of Nursing.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the student’s performance by providing timely and constructive feedback to the faculty member (course coordinator/lead) and the student regarding the student's achievement of established objectives, including grading of assignments and completion of evaluation forms. 
  • Assist and instruct the student in collaborating with nursing and other healthcare professionals during the following:
    • Developing critical thinking and clinical judgment skills to provide safe and effective nursing care.
    • Collecting pertinent data
    • Analyzing the data
    • Identifying expected patient outcomes
    • Developing a plan that describes strategies and alternatives to obtain expected outcomes.
    • Implementing the identified plan, including coordination of care delivery.
