MTSS / LAP / Title Intervention Teacher

Position Purpose

The MTSS/LAP/Title Intervention Teacher serves as the building-level coordinator and system leader for the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This position ensures all students receive appropriate academic and behavioral interventions through a coordinated, data-driven system aligned with state and federal requirements, including LAP, Title I, and Special Education (SLD) guidance.

This role works in close collaboration with stipended CARE Team Leads, who facilitate MTSS meetings, to ensure consistency, fidelity, and effective implementation of intervention systems.

Primary Responsibilities

MTSS System Leadership & Coordination

  • Serve as the building MTSS system lead, ensuring consistent implementation across all tiers
  • Develop and maintain:
    • Intervention systems
    • WIN (What I Need) scheduling structures
    • Tiered support processes
  • Ensure alignment of MTSS practices with:
    • OSPI SLD guidance
    • District MTSS framework
  • Monitor overall system effectiveness (e.g., Tier 1 ≥ 80% benchmark)

Collaboration with CARE Team Leads

  • Partner with CARE Team Leads to ensure effective MTSS team functioning
  • Provide training, coaching, and support to CARE Team Leads on:
    • MTSS problem-solving protocols
    • Data analysis and interpretation
    • Intervention planning aligned to district expectations
  • Meet regularly (e.g., weekly or biweekly) with CARE Team Leads to:
    • Review student data and intervention groupings
    • Ensure consistency in decision-making across teams
    • Align intervention plans with district-approved practices
  • Ensure CARE team meetings:
    • Follow established MTSS problem-solving protocols
    • Include appropriate data and documentation
    • Result in clear, actionable intervention plans

CARE Team Leads facilitate meetings;
MTSS Teacher ensures system alignment, consistency, and follow-through

Intervention Oversight & Instruction

  • Design and oversee Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention systems
  • Provide direct instruction for students receiving Tier 3 interventions
  • Ensure interventions are:
    • Evidence-based
    • Matched to student need
    • Implemented with fidelity
  • Coordinate intervention groupings during WIN time in collaboration with grade-level teams

Data Systems & Progress Monitoring

  • Oversee universal screening processes
  • Ensure consistent progress monitoring:
    • Tier 2: bi-weekly
    • Tier 3: weekly
  • Maintain and monitor:
    • Intervention logs
    • Progress monitoring data
    • Tier movement decisions
  • Support staff in analyzing and using data to inform instruction and intervention

SLD Alignment & Compliance

  • Ensure MTSS systems meet requirements for SLD eligibility determination
  • Maintain documentation demonstrating:
    • Evidence-based interventions
    • Intervention fidelity
    • Student response to intervention over time
  • Collaborate with school psychologists and special education staff to support referral processes

Program Coordination (LAP / Title)

  • Coordinate LAP and Title services within the MTSS framework
  • Ensure compliance with program requirements and allowable use of funds
  • Support identification and monitoring of students served through LAP and Title
  • Assist with program evaluation and reporting

Collaboration & Staff Support

  • Collaborate with:
    • Classroom teachers
    • CARE Team Leads
    • Counselors
    • Administrators
    • School psychologists
    • Para Educators working in the LAP/Title program
    • District office staff to ensure compliance and program fidelity
  • Support teachers in:
    • Differentiation strategies
    • Intervention implementation
    • Classroom supports aligned to MTSS

Professional Development

  • Provide ongoing training and support to staff on:
    • MTSS systems and practices
    • Intervention strategies
    • Data use and progress monitoring
  • Build staff capacity to implement effective Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports

Role Clarification

To ensure a cohesive and effective MTSS system:

  • MTSS/LAP/Title Teacher
    • Leads the system, ensures consistency, and oversees interventions
  • CARE Team Leads (Stipended)
    • Facilitate meetings and guide team discussions using MTSS protocols
  • Final decisions regarding intervention design, grouping, and tier movement
    • Are coordinated and aligned through the MTSS/LAP/Title Teacher

Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Experience with MTSS, RTI, or intervention systems preferred
  • Knowledge of:
    • Evidence-based reading and math interventions
    • Progress monitoring tools and data systems
    • SLD eligibility requirements and MTSS alignment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with LAP and/or Title programs
  • Experience facilitating or supporting collaborative teams
  • Background in literacy and/or math intervention
