    NOTICE OF VACANCY

     

    Jackson Madison County School System

     

     

     

    TITLE: Special Education Teacher

     

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

     

    SUPERVISES: Assigned Assistant Teacher

     

    TERM: 10 months (200-day contract)

     

    JOB GOAL: To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encouraged students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

     
    • Bachelor's degree as required by the State of Tennessee
    • Teacher's certificate with qualifying endorsement area
    • FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
     

    Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

     

    EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

     

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    1. Conducts and maintains a highly organized and professionally functioning classroom.
    2. Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
    3. Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
    4. Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
    5. Shows empathy and understanding of students.
    6. Prepares a variety of written materials (adaptive materials, progress reports, attendance, anecdotal records, IEPS, behavior, logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
    7. Proactively resolves problems that might arise with students and parents.
    8. Directs assistant teacher, student teachers, substitutes, volunteers, and /or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
    9. Facilitates students' learning for the purpose of improving the students' academic success and transition out of the special education program, when applicable and appropriate.
    10. Facilitates parent/student/teacher conferences.
    11. Continues professional development.
    12. Follows policies established by Jackson Madison County School Board and Tennessee State Department of Education.
    13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
