Job Description
St. Margaret’s Episcopal School is seeking enthusiastic, adaptable, and student-centered Substitute Teachers to join our professional community. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic learning environment that values creativity, innovation, and the unique contributions of every individual.

At St. Margaret’s, we encourage our educators to bring their full selves to work - their varied identities, experiences, passions, and perspectives - because we believe that diversity enriches the learning experience for everyone. New team members are welcomed into a supportive environment that includes mentoring from caring administrators and peers, ongoing professional development, and a vibrant school culture that emphasizes connection, wellness, and purpose.

Substitute Teachers are essential to maintaining instructional continuity and student engagement when regular teachers are absent. Ideal candidates are reliable, flexible, and comfortable supporting students across a range of grade levels and subject areas. We are looking for professionals who not only step into the classroom with confidence but who also embrace the mission of preparing students for lives of learning, leadership, and service. Come be a Tartan!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Implement lesson plans and instructional goals provided by the regular classroom teacher.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
• Manage student behavior respectfully and in alignment with school expectations.
• Take and record attendance accurately.
• Supervise students during classroom transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
• Communicate with the regular teacher or division assistant at the end of the assignment to relay key updates or notes.
• Be prepared to teach across various subjects and grade levels as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree (required for lead teaching roles; preferred for assistant or co-teaching roles).
• Some teaching or instructional experience required. Independent school teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to manage a classroom confidently and positively.
• Comfortable using technology in support of classroom instruction.
• Must reside locally and be available for on-campus assignments.
• Subject area knowledge for Middle and Upper School positions.
• 12 ECE units for Early Childhood substitute roles.
• California teaching credential (preferred for Lower School Lead Teacher substitute roles).

COMPENSATION:
• Daily Rate: $185.00
• Schedule: As needed; assignments vary in length and division coverage

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This role requires mobility throughout the classroom and campus, including standing for extended periods, walking, and occasional lifting of classroom materials (up to 25 pounds). Visual and auditory acuity are necessary for active instruction and student supervision. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
