Description
Spotting Specialists are responsible for the timely and safe transport of trailers in, out, and around USGs facility and yard.
JOB DUTIES
- Perform daily yard inventories of trailers available.
- Efficiently move trailers in the yard and through the plant.
- Keep the lot organized to serve customer and carriers as efficiently as possible.
- Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor itself, including cranking lever to raise and lower landing gear on semi-trailers (if applicable).
- Inspect the spotter truck and trailers for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after shift and submit reports on the condition of the truck and trailers daily.
- Maintain appearance of spotter truck: inside the cab at all times (ex.-garbage) and outside when conditions permit.
- Effectively communicate with site and shift supervisors, along with customers staff.
- Perform all duties in accordance with SYM and USG policies and procedures, comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Immediately report all accidents involving driver or company equipment to the site or shift supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety, control, and operating systems.
- Must have knowledge of DOT and SYM regulations governing safe driving and maintenance of equipment.
- Must satisfactorily pass a drug test; pre-employment, random, and other testing as mandated per USG and SYM.
- Must be able to enter and exit the vehicles’ cab, cab level is generally from 36 to 66 inches above ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing.
- · Must be able to safely climb in and out and on and off trailers while maintaining three points of contact.
- Must be able to perform occasional heavy lifting. Lifting various objects overhead up to a maximum of 75 pounds.
- Must be able to place the body in low to the ground positions to perform certain functions such as checking tire pressure, trailer brakes, and other inspection duties.
- Must have free movement of the wrist and hands.
- Must have average to excellent body coordination.
- Must be able to stand for short periods of the day and walk on surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
- Use appropriate workplace ergonomics and practices to prevent injury and accident.
