What You’ll Do;
As a D365 Data Specialist, Inventory with Sporting Life & Team Sports, you will support the Senior Inventory Control Manager, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of inventory data across all systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) for our stores.
To support our growth plans, we have created this new role in our team to ensure the successful execution of organizational processes over inventory by managing our inventory accuracy through daily monitoring and completion of inventory adjustments and reconciliations.
Own Inventory Data Integrity in D365
- Act as the subject matter expert for inventory data within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) Finance & Operations.
- Monitor, analyse, and maintain the accuracy of inventory transactions, master data, costing, and system controls.
- Investigate and resolve data discrepancies across D365, the data warehouse, and external systems (e-commerce, 3PL, POS).
- Ensure appropriate configuration and governance of inventory-related fields, dimensions, and workflows within D365.
Advanced Inventory Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and enhance Power BI dashboards leveraging D365 and warehouse data to deliver real-time visibility into: Inventory accuracy and shrink, Aged inventory and in-transit variances snf Cost anomalies and margin impact.
- Channel performance (stores, e-commerce, 3PL, special orders)
- Translate complex inventory data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership.
Reconciliation & Financial Controls
- Oversee daily and monthly reconciliations between D365 subledger inventory and GL accounts.
- Analyse journal entries, adjustments, allocations, and shrink reserves to ensure financial accuracy.
- Investigate GRNI issues, unmatched invoices, and transaction flow discrepancies in collaboration with Finance and A/P.
- Support audit requests through structured reporting and documented data controls.
Data-Driven Process Optimisation
- Identify systemic data gaps or recurring transaction errors within D365 and recommend configuration or process improvements.
- Partner cross-functionally (Supply Chain, Retail Operations, Finance, IT) to enhance system workflows for receiving, transfers, returns, and special inventory programs.
- Support physical inventory processes from a data validation and reconciliation perspective, ensuring accurate system updates and post-count analysis.
- Contribute to ongoing D365 enhancements, testing, and optimisation initiatives.
What You’ll Bring;
- 3–5+ years’ experience in a data-focused retail, inventory, or ERP analyst role.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (Inventory & Supply Chain modules).
- Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, pivot tables, complex formulas); Power BI dashboard development experience required.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles (subledger vs. GL, costing methods, shrink reserves).
- Proven ability to analyse large datasets and identify root causes of discrepancies.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Finance, Supply Chain, and Retail Operations.
- Independent, analytical mindset with a proactive approach to data governance and continuous improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into business language.
