Job Description

Job summary

The Maintenance and Tooling Manager oversees Plant Maintenance, Tooling, and Safety.   Responsibilities encompass all production equipment, tooling, infrastructure, EH&S, and building mechanical systems for 24/7 operations. This position directly manages maintenance personnel, ensuring the upkeep of plant equipment and tooling while efficiently diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues to minimize production downtime.

Coordinate with Planning to schedule Maintenance activities, Tooling PM, Equipment PM, and Equipment installations, where the work will cause the least disruption to the Production Schedule.   Coordinates with Engineers and Manufacturing resources to ensure efficient day-to-day production operations.

The Maintenance and Tooling Manager must be a team player and work effectively with all departments in order to ensure that a quality product is produced. Lead and Instill a safe and organized work environment.  

Essential functions

  • Safe operation of all ORAFOL manufacturing equipment.
  • Certified to drive and operate ORAFOL Fork Trucks within the Plant.
  • Effectively manage all Maintenance and Roll Making Department Personnel and ensure proper utilization of time and resources.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of all equipment in the Plant and the production of Roll Tooling.
  • Provide prompt Maintenance support to the Production Departments.
  • Effectively Schedule all the activities of the Maintenance and Roll Making Departments in order to meet the Production Schedule requirements.  Tooling includes:  Roll Making, Dies, Screws, ancillary equipment, etc.
  • Develop and track metrics to measure performance of departments within responsibility.
  • Provide direction and support in the planning, implementation and execution of the Preventative Maintenance Program while working around the Production Schedule.
  • Coordinate and Manage Maintenance Support during Extrusion teardowns and/or changeovers.
  • Conduct scheduled checks for spotting any equipment malfunctions.
  • Using ORAFOL’ S Excel based system, maintain records of all Repair and Maintenance activities as well as spare part inventories. 
  • Place requisitions for spare parts and other Maintenance equipment using
  • Oversee Building and Grounds Maintenance (Painting, Weeding, Snow Removal, Cleaning, Lighting, etc.)
  • Coordinate work functions with other organizational departments.
  • Insure that all of the areas of the responsibility are kept clean and organized. This also includes the Building and Grounds.
  • Effectively work with Production Employees in a helpful and respectful manner as well as promote a Team environment.
  • Complete special projects and assignments that are not specific to this outline but as required and directed by Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

  • Must have a working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Must know how to repair all equipment in the shop
  • Must be able to perform and trouble shoot basic mechanical, material, and control problems.
  • Must build a team environment.
  • Must know the equipment in the plant and where and how it is used.
  • Must know where all electrical panels and shutoffs are located.
  • Must follow the 5S workplace organizational and housekeeping methodology for all Maintenance and Roll Making Areas.
  • Must be a team player and work well with others.
  • Follow prescribed safety policies in accordance to Orafol’s Safety program; use required PPE as specified for each Job Function.  
  • All Safety training requirements must be up to date:  the company AND Each employee is responsible for the completion of the required Training. 
  • Maintains  an optimal level of product quality and adheres to Orafol’s  Quality Program
