Title: 6-8 Summer English Language Development (ELD) Teacher - Focused Instruction for Newcomer and Immigrant Students 


Location: Samoset Middle School 


Position Type: Part-Time 


Salary: $50/hr (Student-facing instruction); $40/hr (Planning)


Description


Leominster Public Schools is seeking one anticipated teaching position for the 2026 Summer ELD Program. This program provides focused instruction specifically designed for newcomer and immigrant students in grades 6-8. Teachers will provide intensive language support to facilitate academic transitions and English language acquisition.


Schedule & Compensation



  • Program Dates: June 29th – July 30th.

  • Weekly Hours: 18 hours per week (Monday – Thursday, 7:40 am – 12:10 pm).

  • Planning Day: June 25th (4 hours of planning with content specialists at $40/hr).

  • Instructional Rate: $50/hr.

  • Attendance: Attendance for the full five weeks (20 days) is strongly encouraged.


Responsibilities



  • Lesson Design: Plan and execute daily ELD lessons specifically aligned with the needs of newcomer and immigrant students.

  • Assessment: Develop and administer language-based pre- and post-assessments to measure linguistic progress.

  • Instruction: Deliver 20 days of targeted instruction, ensuring high engagement and language mastery.

  • Literacy Support: Facilitate the first 30 minutes of each day dedicated to summer reading initiatives.

  • Individualized Support: Monitor student progress and provide differentiated support for various English proficiency levels.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and language growth.

  • Communication: Communicate with students and families regarding program expectations and progress.

  • Collaboration: Work with colleagues and content specialists to support the success of immigrant and newcomer youth.


Requirements & Qualifications



  • Internal Status: This position is open to INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY.

  • Licensure: Secondary Licensed ESL .

  • Experience: Experience working with ELD instruction and newcomer populations preferred.

  • Work Eligibility: Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
