Job Responsibilities:
- Interview patients for information needed to register the patient: legal name, address, phone number, next of kin, insurance to be filed, ordering physician, subscriber.
- Create creates patient records—medical records and financial records.
- Explains HIPAA forms, Advance Directives, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, visitor policy, billing forms for ERP, Anesthesia, and Radiologist in addition to URMC billing. Obtains legal signatures on forms and witness signatures.
- Explains IM letters from Medicare when needed and obtains signatures.
- Scans documents onto the medical records.
- Verifies insurance, calculates the amount due from the patient and collects payments.
- Assists other departments with Meditech issues—room transfers, taking patients with an ER tracker etc.
- Locates orders in the EMR or on paper for service for patients when they arrive.
- Review order to confirm the order is valid and signed and in the correct date range.
- Checks/confirms medical necessity coverage using ICD10 codes and CPT codes
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
License, Certification:
- CPAR, within first year of hire
Experience:
- Minimum clerical and customer service experience 1 year
Preferred
- 3 years medical office clerical exp, medical terminology experience, exp w ICD 10 codes
