This position is responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of county buildings.
Position Duties
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical components.
- Assists in the installation of cable, pipe, and wiring.
- Assists in the completion of plumbing and carpentry maintenance and repair as needed.
- Assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of doors and locks.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Change light bulbs and ballasts.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Moves furniture.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of building repair and maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in building repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Skill in diagnostic troubleshooting.
- Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least one ( 1 ) year of general maintenance experience.

Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance and repair of county buildings. Success in this position ensures safe and well-maintained buildings and facilities.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Occasionally
- Working in low temperatures.
- Working in hazardous conditions.
- Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.
- Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected.
- Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
- Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
- Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Operating machinery and/or power tools.
- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle.
- Working in high temperatures.
- Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
- Working in noisy environments.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Other Requirements/Information
- Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
- Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
- This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
