The Opportunity:
DS is currently seeking Field Technician(s) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates looking to further develop their careers in civil engineering. No: of open positions - two (2) juniors ($21.00-$23.00) and one (1) intermediate ($24.00 - $27.00)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical services in a field and laboratory environment (geotechnical quality assurance/quality control testing, drill supervision, surveying).
- Duties include laboratory testing and site inspections and testing of road and buildings construction materials (asphalt, soil/aggregate, concrete), including but not limited to in-situ density testing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), and Superpave. Sample collection and compaction testing of soil and aggregate. Sampling and testing of plastic concrete samples as per CCIL and project requirements. Subgrade proof roll and evaluations.
- Perform laboratory testing in accordance with DS Consultants Quality Control System
- Understanding test methods and procedures
- Analysis of test data and corrective action to prevent non-conforming products
- Documentation and Data Control
- Care and Maintenance of testing equipment
- Report any non-conformance concerns to management
- Prepare and collect samples for laboratory testing, ensure accuracy of test data
- Writing, proof-reading and submitting of quality control inspection and test reports
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ensure all health and safety programs, policies and procedures are being followed at all times
- Travel to sites within Greater Toronto Area and Ontario
- Along with any other duties as assigned by management
Key Qualifications, Skills & Education:
- Civil Engineering diploma, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering
- CCIL Certifications in asphalt and concrete is an asset
- 1-2 years field experience of soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation
- Previous experience working as a geotechnical technician preferred
- Knowledge of drilling procedures is an asset
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must own vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a valid (G-Level) Ontario Driver's License
- Must be mobile, punctual, and willing to work on a combination of field, lab, and office work, as travel is required
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, proactively able to respond to time-sensitive issues
- Excellent computer skills, proficiency with common industry software is required
- Flexible, well organized, interested in technical and personal advancement, able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills must communicate effectively with team members and clients, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential
