Burton Center is looking for a full-time Cafeteria Aide to add to our dynamic team! The Cafeteria Aide is responsible for preparing food and performing a variety of cafeteria duties to ensure safe, nutritious, and timely meal service. This role supports adherence to prescribed diets, cleanliness standards, and efficient kitchen operations.

Burton Center is a non-profit disability and special needs board. Our organization was created in 1971 to provide essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs and to offer much needed assistance to their families. Over the last five decades, we have been able to expand our range of services. With locations in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties, Burton Center's staff of 325, assists over 500 people. Our services are provided free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. We offer Day Programs, Residential Services, and Employment Placement Programs.
About the Position
This is a full-time position with hours between 7:00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. This position is onsite at Burton Center's Day Program.
The Cafeteria Aide prepares food and performs a variety of cafeteria duties to support daily meal service operations. This position is responsible for assisting with food preparation and cooking while ensuring that all meals are prepared in accordance with prescribed menus and dietary guidelines established by the dietitian, including proper portion sizes. The employee maintains clean, sanitary kitchen equipment, utensils, and surrounding work areas at all times and uses kitchen equipment and appliances safely, promptly reporting any maintenance concerns or operational issues to a supervisor.
In addition to food preparation and sanitation duties, the Cafeteria Aide provides assistance to individuals assigned to kitchen duties by helping them perform their responsibilities effectively. The position may require acting in the absence of the Cafeteria Supervisor as assigned. Employees are expected to attend initial Burton Center staff orientation sessions, as well as required in-service trainings and workshops, to enhance job performance and maintain compliance with organizational standards.
Required Qualifications
SC Driver's License
Ability to lift or maneuver up to 50lbs,
Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
Ability to pass ServSafe certification
Prior cooking experience
Ability to be adaptive, a team player, and advocate for others
Excellent oral and written communication skills

All newly hired Burton Center staff must complete a mandatory in-person orientation, MedTech, and complete all assigned online training prior to on-the-job training. Orientation is held once a month, over the course of three days, from 9am-5pm.
