    TITLE:  Debate Assistant Coach
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     

    1. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
    2. Patient, yet firm.
    3. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
    4. Physically able to perform assigned duties.
    5. Previous speech and debate experience preferred, but not mandatory.
    6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

     
    REPORTS TO:  Building Administrator.
     
    NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB:
     
    In accordance with district policies and procedures, the high school Assistant Debate Coach will assist the High School Debate Coach in all aspects of administration, operations, and coaching of the speech and debate teams.
     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
     

    • Provides individual and group instruction in preparation for tournament competition.
    • Attend weekly practices and travel to week-end tournaments to assist with tournaments and chaperone students.
    • Assists in arranging transportation, lodging, and meals for tournament.
    • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
    • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
    • Is responsible for the welfare and safety of the students at practice, during competition and while teaching.  This includes responsibility for students while on road trips and beyond tournament times (i.e. at motels, restaurants, and before and after tournaments.)
    • Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.

     
    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
     

    • Performs all other duties assigned.

     
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
     
    This is an "at will position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.  The "employment period" and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. These are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as the employment continues.

          Performance of this position will be evaluated by the building principal.
