Job Description

About the Department

We are seeking an energetic Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our team, who can change direction at a moment’s notice to maintain all heavy equipment to include but not limited to repairs, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. Mechanic: II operates heavy equipment for the purpose of repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance for the Road and Bridge department.

Position Duties

  • Must be able to service and make in-depth repairs on various types of heavy construction equipment and may include large trucks and passenger vehicles as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. 
  • Disassemble/Reassemble heavy and mobile equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
  • Enter data for repairs, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, inventory check out and time
  • Must be able to service and repair equipment in the field as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. 
  • Fill in other areas as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to Metal fabrication, utilize oxygen and acetylene torch, Mig / stick weld and braze 
  • Hydraulics Systems troubleshooting repair required
  • Troubleshoot, repair and test all equipment to ensure functionality
  • Must understand schematics to troubleshoot 12v&24v heavy equipment systems
  • Must supply own hand tools

Other Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. (completed or in progress)
  • At least 5 years of experience in equipment service and repair field.

Licenses and Certification

  • Must have a valid driver's license 
  • Air Conditioning Certification or equivalent required

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, pull, reach and lift and carry items weighing 80lbs or more in an outdoor environment with exposures to severe extremes in weather
