Job Description:

Become a Deputy Fire Marshal with the Flammable Liquids Division of the Nebraska State Fire Marshal. Initiative, integrity, responsibility, and working well with others are essential qualities for success in this position. This position will serve the Southwest inspection area of Nebraska including Lincoln, Dawson, Buffalo, Kearney, Hayes, Frontier Gosper, Phelps, Hitchcock, Red Willow, Furnas, Harlan, Franklin. Residence in a community/county within the inspection area is required. Initial training will be conducted in Lincoln and around the state with other deputies.

Job duties

Inspect underground and above ground flammable liquid storage tanks for day-to-day compliance with codes and industry standards; perform inspections for proper storage tank installation and removal; investigate and determine source of releases from tanks; write complete and accurate reports. Maintain electronic monitoring equipment, interpret life safety codes, respond to hazards created by releases from tanks and conduct public presentations. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in fire-fighting.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to write clear and concise reports using appropriate grammar, ability to use computer and office equipment, drive for extended periods of time, knowledge of flammable liquid storage and handling. Good verbal communication skills. Ability to work well with others. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point. Must be able to lift 35 pounds, crouch, and sit for considerable time periods.

Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required. A valid driver's license is required.
