    TITLE:  Preschool Instructor
     
    CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt
     
    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:  To provide preschool program to prepare 3 and 4 year old children to enter kindergarten.  
     
    PRINCIPAL DUTIES:  (essential functions)
    • Provides direct classroom instruction to preschool aged children.  Develops and implements curriculum, involves families in the assessment and goal setting process and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior.
    • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
    • Prepares classroom for daily planned activities.  Gathers necessary materials and supplies.
    • Creates lesson plans, maintains attendance records, charts observation notes and enters into the computer.  Plans and coordinates the work of teacher aides, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
    • Cleans and maintains classroom materials.
    • Plans and conducts staff development activities and regular meetings.
    • Conducts pre and post year screenings on all enrolled children.  Conducts home visits, and parent teacher conferences.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
     
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
     
    Knowledge of district educational policies, regulations and rules.
    Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, policies and rules.
    Knowledge of educational practices, processes and techniques.
     
    Skill in assessing readiness for kindergarten.
    Skill in meeting educational needs of preschool age children and their parents.
    Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
    Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
    Skill in translating and interpreting.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and three (3) years experience with young children OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide required knowledge and skills. Bilingual preferred.
    In 2009, Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with AZ Early Childhood Certification.
