    Job Description: HVAC Filter Technician

     


    Position Summary

    The HVAC Filter Technician is responsible for the scheduled inspection, replacement, and maintenance of air filters across residential, commercial, and/or industrial HVAC systems. This role ensures indoor air quality standards are met, systems operate efficiently, and service records are accurately maintained.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform routine inspection, cleaning, and replacement of HVAC air filters according to scheduled maintenance plans
    • Travel to client sites to service HVAC units, air handlers, rooftop units, and related equipment
    • Identify and document filter types, MERV ratings, and dimensions for accurate replacement
    • Assess filter condition and report any signs of system damage, leaks, mold, or unusual wear to supervisors
    • Maintain accurate service logs, work orders, and client records using paper or digital systems
    • Ensure proper disposal of used filters in accordance with company and environmental guidelines
    • Communicate professionally with clients and building occupants during service visits
    • Stock and manage inventory of filter supplies in service vehicle
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures
    • Perform light preventive maintenance tasks as directed (e.g., coil inspections, belt checks)
    • Meet daily service route schedules and report any issues or delays to dispatch

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
    • Ability to work independently and manage a daily service route
    • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn HVAC systems
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

    Preferred:

    • 1+ year of experience in HVAC, facilities maintenance, or a related trade
    • Familiarity with MERV ratings and filter types (pleated, HEPA, fiberglass, etc.)
    • Experience using work order management software or mobile apps

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
    • Comfortable working in confined spaces, on ladders, and on rooftops
    • Ability to work in varying temperatures and environments (attics, mechanical rooms, outdoor units)
    • Standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
