Required

·       Associates degree or higher degree including related college course work; or have completed 60 semester hours, or achieved a minimum ETS Paraprofessional Assessment score of 460.

·       Obtain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification within two (2) district training opportunities provided from hire date.

·       Obtain CPR/First/Aid/ AED certification within 60 days of hire date.

·       Successful pre-employment physical exam and criminal records background check.

Preferred

Job Description
Position Title: Para Educator
Classification: Per MCCAA Master Agreement
Reports To: Building Principal or Designee
Job Function: The primary function of the Para Educator is to assist students with disabilities in order to
facilitate access to educational setting, curriculum and activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist students with disabilities individually or in small groups in order to help them access the
education setting, curriculum and activities.
2. Observe student performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
3. Carry out therapeutic regimens such as, but not limited to: behavior support plans, personal
development plans, and therapy activities, under the supervision of instructors or therapists.
4. Provide personal care services to students with disabilities, including but not limited to:
eating/feeding, toileting, grooming, dressing, transferring, ambulation, personal hygiene,
mobility/positioning, meal preparation, skin care, bathing, maintain continence, redirection, and
intervention for behaviors, as necessary based on Student/Classroom/Building needs.
5. Document provision of personal care services for Medicaid billing and for maintenance of record
keeping.
6. Carries out instructional plans as designated by the special education teacher and the student’s
Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
7. Assist in the physical movement of students from one learning environment to another.
8. Transporting students to therapy, bus, and special classes.
9. Assist student during instructional, lunch and recess periods as scheduled.
10. Acts as liaison between special education personnel and regular education personnel.
11. Facilitate effective use of technology including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google
applications, email, and instructional technology.
12. Redirect student behavior and reinforce appropriate behavior throughout the school day.
13. Assist students with medical needs including, but not limited to diastat and CPR.
14. Tutor small groups at the request of teacher.
15. Maintain positive working relationships with parents and staff within the school building.
16. Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school
environment and the community.
17. Maintain valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification as provided by the District.
18. Maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification and be able to perform all aspects of
physical restraint that fall under TCIS certification or other trainings as provided by the District.
19. Required participation in District provided professional development.
