Job Description

About the Department

The hiring rate for this position is $16.22/hr.  Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am - 6pm (up to 20 hours/week, exact times vary)

Under close supervision of the Recreation Manager, or designee. Performs varied routine duties in assisting the Leisure Services Department. Work is performed with some independence. Work is reviewed through conferences and results obtained.

Position Duties

  • Opens, secures and cleans facilities for programs/events/rentals. Enforces rules and regulations of proper facility use; maintains orderliness and daily inspections of recreational areas.

  • Issues equipment; collects fees and memberships; maintains records/logs/scorekeeping, if required; ensures the proper care and use of equipment.

  • Maintains, inspects, and cleans city vehicles.

  • Assists contractual instructors in setting up and maintaining required equipment & records. 

  • Set up/break down of programs.

  • Portrays specific costumed character/Mascot/ and or handler.

  • Interacting with the public in and outdoors.

  • Performs special assignments and/or other duties as assigned.

  • Evening and/or weekend work will be required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the play of a variety of recreational games.
  • Ability to responsibly oversee the use of a recreational facility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with the public.
  • Ability to maintain simple records.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ages 15+ High school attendee, diploma, or GED; supplemented by some work experience in recreational activities or related environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) and First Aid with six (6) months.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate non-verbally to public - Character Performer.
  • Reaching, bending, and lifting.
  • Lifting objects of 15 - 50lbs.
  • Use of fingers and hands.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, and running.
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information and data from a computer.
  • Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
  • May require ability to perform an/or demonstrate various physical skills involved in recreational programming.
