Description

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistant Teachers for the 2026-27 School Year to support our team in providing high-quality early childhood education to young children. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the lead teacher to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment where children can thrive and develop essential skills.


About the School 

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 


Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Monitor children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Help maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly classroom environment.
  • Provide one-on-one support and assistance to children as needed, including helping with activities, reinforcing positive behavior, and addressing individual learning needs.
  • Assist in observing and documenting children's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones. Maintain accurate records and contribute to assessments and reports for parent communication and program evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other team members to plan and implement engaging and enriching learning experiences for children. 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and other professional development
  • Promote good health and hygiene practices among children. 
  • Assist with meal/snack times, diapering/toileting routines, and other daily care tasks as needed.
  • Support students in their social emotional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with other educational team members to provide a balanced and comprehensive educational experience.
  • Attend faculty meetings, seek out professional development, and contribute to the overall school community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare center, or similar setting (preferred).
  • Knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions from lead teachers and supervisors.
  • Hebrew language a plus

Salary range for this role is $35,000-$45,000, depending upon education and experience.
