Job Description

Reporting to the Risk and Compliance Manager, the Technical Compliance Specialist (Product Compliance Specialist) works closely with Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure products are designed, validated, and produced in compliance with applicable technical, safety, and environmental regulations.

 

The Specialist is actively involved throughout the product lifecycle, collaborating with engineering and technical experts to interpret regulatory and standards requirements, assess compliance risks, identify gaps, and implement effective mitigation strategies.

 

The role also involves researching and navigating complex global product regulations and standards, ensuring safety, performance, and environmental requirements are met during development, validation, and production, while maintaining comprehensive machine technical files in accordance with applicable standards.

 

This position is well suited to an individual with an engineering, quality, or technical background who excels in design support, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

 

Location: 200 Avenue Road, Cambridge, On

Dedicated Day Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday

 

Job Duties

  • Research, interpret, and communicate global product safety, technical, and environmental regulations and standards applicable to new and existing products and target markets.
  • Participate in and support risk assessments, including Product Risk Assessments, Functional Safety Reviews, and FMEA activities.
  • Maintain complete and accurate machine technical files and product conformity documentation in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Support product testing activities and ensure test results, certifications, and compliance records are properly documented and retained.
  • Develop and improve compliance‑related processes to reduce product risk, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and maintain engineering procedures, training materials, and onboarding resources to support regulatory and compliance awareness.

 

Skills / Experience

  • Technical background in engineering, quality, product safety, or regulatory compliance within a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Working knowledge of global product safety, performance, and environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience supporting risk management activities such as FMEA, hazard analysis, and functional safety reviews.
  • Strong documentation and audit skills with the ability to maintain technical files and compliance records.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical standards, regulatory requirements, and test specifications.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, design, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience reviewing technical documents, manuals, and safety instructions for regulatory accuracy.
  • Proficiency with engineering and project tools such as MS Office, SharePoint, SolidWorks, and DraftSight.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable guidance for design teams.

 

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field; eligible for CET or P.Eng. designation.
  • Solid understanding of machine design fundamentals, including calculations and basic simulations.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and technical drawings (SolidWorks/DraftSight an asset).
  • Knowledge of product risk management, including FMEA and Functional Safety principles, considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for crossfunctional collaboration.
  • Proficient with MS Office and SharePoint for documentation and collaboration.
