Job Description

The Publishing Division of the American College of Physicians (ACP) is looking to hire a Director of Electronic Publishing and Product Development. ACP, a national organization of internal medicine physicians with headquarters in Philadelphia, is the largest medical specialty organization and the second largest physician group in the United States with 163,000 members worldwide. This is a hybrid position with 1 day per week in the Philadelphia office required.

Reporting to the Vice President, Publishing, the Director leads the planning, development, and operational delivery of ACP’s digital publishing and product portfolio. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Translating organizational strategy into product roadmaps and delivery plans for publishing products
  • Leading the full product lifecycle including discovery, business case, MVP, project management-based implementation, agile delivery, launch, optimization, and sunset, while defining instruments to measure performance
  • Driving search and discovery across SEO, structured metadata, and LLM/GAIO surfaces
  • Identifying and integrating AI-enabled tools and workflows to enhance product capabilities and operational efficiency
  • Managing budgets, forecasting, and financial performance for assigned publishing products and services, and contributing to pricing strategy and business model innovation
  • Collaborating with Editors-in-Chief, editorial, production, marketing, sales/advertising, IT, and data teams to deliver high-impact, industry-leading products

 Qualified applicants will have: 

  • A college degree and significant related experience in digital and/or scholarly publishing, with at least two years of supervisory experience
  • Technical industry knowledge including publishing technologies (CMSs; XML/JATS/HTML; metadata and semantic enrichment), AI/ML concepts and tools, SEO/GAIO concepts and LLM discoverability, standards and bodies (NISO, STM, Crossref/DOI, ORCID, CHORUS, Clarivate), and accessibility requirements (ADA, WCAG 2.2, Section 508)
  • Strong project management, budgeting, communication, and analytical skills
