Facilities Maintenance Assistant


Job Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Technician or Facilities Manager in ensuring that buildings, equipment, and grounds remain safe, clean, and fully operational. This role involves routine repairs, preventive maintenance, and responding to service requests in a timely, professional manner.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs, patching walls, and tightening fixtures.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, and mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Support larger repair projects by preparing tools, materials, and work areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area, tools, and storage areas.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff, tenants, or customers.
  • Help with groundskeeping tasks such as trash removal, sweeping, snow removal, or minor landscaping.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and report shortages.
  • Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions immediately.

Work Environment

  • Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend availability depending on facility needs.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC).
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and standing for long periods.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Prior maintenance or handyman experience is a plus but not always required.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
