Shipping Clerk Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shipping Clerk to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for compiling and maintaining records related to shipments, including put-away and letdown documentation. You will ensure all data entry is completed accurately and in a timely manner to maintain up-to-date inventory levels.

The Shipping Clerk will support all shipping and receiving procedures while providing excellent customer service. This position plays a critical role in ensuring all outbound shipments are properly documented, accurate, and processed efficiently.

You will check drivers in and out throughout the day, handle Bills of Lading (BOLs), utilize internal systems, and frequently interact with warehouse personnel and carriers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process inbound and outbound shipments within the warehouse
  • Obtain put-away and letdown paperwork from the outgoing shift and enter information into RUMBO
  • Create and maintain the Complete Inventory Report for the current shift
  • Obtain outbound paperwork from the Shipping Supervisor and complete transactions in the system
  • Obtain signatures from carriers on Bills of Lading and delivery receipts
  • Collaborate with team members to identify issues and develop corrective action plans to eliminate inaccurate or damaged shipments
  • Identify customer shortages and verify warehouse inventory to determine the validity of claims
  • Work in conjunction with Transportation to track and analyze OS&D (Over, Short & Damaged) and develop methods to reduce claims
  • Perform inventory-related functions including cycle counts, full physical inventory counts, empty slot checks, and other inventory control activities as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental processes, including selection and inventory accuracy
  • Enter inventory counts during quarterly reconciliation and create recount sheets based on established parameters
  • Interact with warehouse associates to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Assist with daily and weekly reporting
  • Partner with Supervisors and Management to meet warehouse performance metrics
  • Prioritize workload and remain flexible to adjust based on operational needs
  • Perform additional clerical duties as assigned by the department manager
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of shipping/receiving experience
  • 1 year of customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with a Warehouse Management System (WMS) required
