Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an opportunity available for a General Manager for Port Arthur LNG. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the Regional Vice President (RVP).
POSITION SUMMARY
The General Manager (GM) reports directly to the Regional Vice President and is responsible for the safe, compliant, effective, and efficient operations of marine assets and shoreside operations of the division, including management of personnel, assets, and the facility.
The GM is responsible for the implementation and effectiveness of Moran Towing Corporation’s (“Moran” or “Company”) Safety Management System (SMS) and its applicability to marine assets and personnel. The GM must embrace the Company’s Mission, Vision, and Values as guidance in all decisions, including promoting a strong safety culture in the workplace, leading by example, providing training, and supporting safe work practices. This also includes identifying and managing risk within the Company’s framework.
The GM is responsible for maintaining the Moran brand as a recognized leader in the industry by maintaining positive relationships with customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies and with Moran personnel in operational and support functions.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED, TO:
Operations
• Implements and monitors the performance of the Safety Management System.
• Ensures assets are operated and maintained to Moran’s high standards.
• Manages compliance and reporting (Sub Chapter M, COI, USCG, ABS, etc.).
• Manages the owned or leased facilities.
• Recruits and hires marine employees.
• Hires shoreside employees working in partnership with the HR Recruiting Manager.
• Ensures employees are adequately trained as per Moran’s Center for Learning guidance.
• Develops employees for maximum performance and advancement (where applicable).
• Adheres to a regular schedule of visits aboard vessels and documents these Visible Leadership Visits.
• Champions the Near Miss Program.
• Identifies adverse risk behaviors and provides guidance to ensure safe work procedures.
• Schedules, attends, and distributes reports for internal and external audits.
• Proposes plans and implements corrective actions when necessary.
• Participates as a contributing member of the Quality Steering Committee.
• Participates in onboard safety drills and assists in identifying risk in the spirit of continuous improvement.
• Seeks innovative solutions and corrective actions in all aspects of port operations.
• Communicates and engages the division in corporately issued safety documentation, newsletters, and initiatives.
• Performs investigations into injury and/or accident events.
• Manages the division’s utilization of injury / damage software, Origami.
• Works with the port employees to achieve efficient operational excellence.
Business
• Monitors comparative performance in the marketplace with regards to assets, pricing, and market share.
• Builds local port relationships with customers, agents, and regulatory agencies.
• Responds to customer inquiries for pricing, bids, etc.
• Ensures responses are completed by staff to all customer inquiries regarding pricing, bids, etc.
• Completes annual budgets for division and monitors financial performance.
• Performs annual reviews of employees’ performance and compensation.
• Assists the corporate Sales Department with customers as assigned.
• Identifies new business opportunities.
• Assists in new business inquiries and provides local knowledge when directed.
Engineering
• Manages engineering performance of vessels and continually seeks improvement in reliability.
• Manages the Engineering Team for safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
• Manages Moran’s Management Operating System (OMS) for the Division, which includes timely completion and proper documentation of repairs.
• Assists in the review of, and updates to, drydock specifications.
• Authorizes Persons-In-Charge for oil transfer operations.
• Monitors vendor performance and cost.
• Ensures that adequate spare parts are available for future repairs.
• Monitors fuel consumption and expenses.
Accounting
• Manages Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
• Reviews and approves payroll each pay period to ensure accuracy.
• Regularly reviews employee compensation for the Division to be aligned with marketplace and performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum high school diploma
• Valid driver’s license and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
• Prior experience demonstrating successful management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to speak publicly.
• Ability to take initiative, prioritize, multi-task, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions.
• Highly proficient Microsoft Office computer skills, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to analyze data, including demonstrated analytical skills in Power BI, Excel pivot tables, etc. to measure and review performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 4-year college degree, with a bachelor’s degree in marine transportation or marine engineering.
• Operations experience in the tug/towing industry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO:
• Board a vessel while moored via barge landing or underway via crew boat and withstand tug motion and high temperature areas for periods of time.
• Cross bulwarks; frequently walk, including on uneven surfaces; and climb ladders and stairs.
• Stoop; bend; and stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, including use of a keyboard and computer screen.
• Travel, including air travel.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target pay range for the General Manager position is $130,000 -$140,000 per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
