Primary Function:
Under the general mentorship and guidance of a supervising engineer, the candidate will perform assignments that require applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to conduct engineering analysis and design. This position provides the opportunity to work on a variety of water resources and stormwater tasks, including watershed/stormwater modeling, master planning, floodplain delineation, pollutant load analysis, water quality calculations, report writing, permitting, design, field reviews, and construction observations.
Primary Duties:
- Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or water quality modeling.
- Analyze stormwater or floodplain drainage systems to control erosion, stabilize banks, reduce flooding, or repair stream channels.
- Assist in the design of stormwater management systems, including drainage, conveyance, retention, and green infrastructure projects.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to identify spatial relationships, prepare GIS datasets, parameterize models, and display results of analyses using maps, graphs, or tables.
- Enter data into GIS databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry,
spatial analysis, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, or conversion of other sources of digital data.
- Utilize specialized computer software for the analysis, design, and plans production of stormwater systems.
- Conduct site assessments, field reviews, or construction observations and prepare field documentation.
- Prepare environmental documentation for water resources, regulatory program compliance, data management and analysis, and field work.
- Produce detailed reports and other documentation.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to complete project tasks.
- Make decisions and develop solutions to problems by applying accepted procedures and methodologies.
- Stay informed on stormwater regulations, best management practices (BMPs), and emerging trends in water resources.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- 3 or more years of prior, practical experience in stormwater engineering or related fields.
- Familiarity with municipal clients and local experience completing watershed studies, stormwater retrofits, drainage design, permitting, and field inspections.
- Knowledge of FDOT and municipal design criteria, standards, and plan preparation requirements is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, stormwater modeling software (ICPR4/StormWise, HEC-RAS, or SWMM), MicroStation/Open Roads or AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS.
- Ability to communicate effectively, thoroughly complete work tasks, and work well with others.
- Possess attention to detail, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
