Martin-Mullins Internship

This paid internship aims to provide the intern with an educational experience that prioritizes their learning and professional development. While the intern�s work will support Museum projects, the training and mentorship provided through this program are designed to benefit the student. This internship is specifically intended to support Native American students interested in museum studies with a conservation focus.


In 2026, the Martin-Mullins Internship will be based in the Museum�s conservation section, with work primarily focused on the Native North American collections, as well as some work on other collections from around the world. This is a paid internship working full-time (35 hours per week) on-site for 12 weeks. The salary is $17.75/hr for undergraduates or $18.50/hr for master�s students and recent graduates. Desired start date of May 18th, 2026, with term date 12 weeks from start date. However, start and end dates are negotiable, but the internship must take place between April 1 and Sept 30. The internship will offer hands-on experience with the care, documentation, and technical study of cultural materials, including items deinstalled during the Native Truths hall renovation.


The selected intern will work alongside conservation staff but should also feel comfortable taking initiative, working independently, and approaching the work with curiosity and care. Duties may include examining and condition reporting objects, assisting with conservation treatments, constructing storage mounts, photographing the collections, performing arsenic testing, completing detailed surveys, and assisting with technical analyses.

Qualifications

Native American students are encouraged to apply for this internship. Qualified candidates should be undergraduate or graduate students, or recent graduates (graduation in December 2025 or later), in Anthropology, Native American Studies, Museum Studies, Fine Art Students or a related field. Successful candidates will have strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Previous experience with digital photography or material culture care is helpful but not required. An interest in museum conservation, cultural stewardship, or textile studies is especially welcome.

Hourly wage is $18.50 for recent graduates and graduate students and $17.75 for undergraduate students. 35 hours per week.
