Qualifications
- Successful completion of an accredited program in Respiratory Care and is a Certified or Registered Therapist.
- Must be licensed by the State of Ohio.
- Has complete understanding of all common respiratory procedures and sterile techniques.
- Should possess basic knowledge of how a respiratory department functions.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Must be able to prioritize and work independently.
- Must be able to function effectively and efficiently in emergencies.
- Must be able to make quick decisions when necessary.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains daily records with accurate documentation and charting.
- Provides protection of self and patient in accordance with safety standards.
- Practices sterile technique.
- Maintains educational requirements for licensure.
- Secures and returns supplies.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in work storage areas.
- Must be certified in BLS, maintains skills and provides emergency resuscitation.
- Answers the phone and relays messages accurately.
- Cleans and sterilizes tests and trouble shoots equipment.
- Assist a physicians with procedures as requested.
- Properly identifies patient needs, thoroughly and clearly explains procedures.
- Performs work in a timely manner.
- Perform Arterial Blood Gas draws and use of results for care parameter decisions.
- Perform oxygen and medication nebulizer therapy
- Maintains competency in all duties
- Set up and use respiratory equipment (ventilators, BiPAP’s)
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.

- Must agree not to disclose residents protected health information and report suspected or known violations of suck disclosures to the Administrator
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patients.
- Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system.
- Report suspected or known incidences of fraud relative to false billings, cost reports, kickbacks, etc.
- Must have willingness to work with the realization that errors have serious consequences for patients.
- Must have the willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks.
- Must have patience and tact when dealing with patients.
- Must agree to be subject to night, weekend, and holiday duty.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, and climb repetitively depending on the task assigned.
- Must be able to lift 60-70 lbs frequently.
- Must be able to see and hear adequately to respond to visual and auditory requests from patients.
- Must be able to stand and walk short distances during a 12-hour shift.
- Must be able to speak clearly enough to adequately communicate with hearing impaired patients.
- Must possess upper extremity mobility which does not impede fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Must be able to read and write so that center charting requirements can be met.
- Report any medical conditions, such as communicable disease, that might interfere with providing direct patient care.
