Position Overview
Grinding Manager leads our grinding operations within a precision machining environment. This role is responsible for overseeing all grinding processes—including surface, cylindrical, centerless, and CNC grinding—to ensure the production of high-tolerance components that meet stringent quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Manage daily grinding operations across multiple machines and shifts
- Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality and efficiency
- Oversee setup, operation, and troubleshooting of manual and CNC grinding equipment
- Coordinate with production planning to prioritize jobs and allocate resources effectively
Technical Oversight
- Review engineering drawings and specifications to determine grinding requirements
- Optimize grinding parameters, wheel selection, and dressing techniques for performance and longevity
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes
- Maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes as required
Team Management
- Supervise and mentor grinding technicians and operators
- Conduct training on equipment, safety, and best practices

Quality Assurance
- Ensure all parts meet dimensional and surface finish specifications
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming parts
- Maintain documentation for process control and traceability
- Participate in internal and external audits
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste and improve throughput
- Evaluate new grinding technologies and equipment for potential integration
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive improvements in efficiency ratio, cycle time, scrap rate, and uptime
Requirements
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in grinding operations within a precision machining environment
- Strong understanding of grinding principles, materials, and tooling
- Experience with CNC grinding machines and programming (e.g., Cincinnati)
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 & TS-16949 quality systems
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of ERP systems and shop floor data collection tools
- Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement training
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
