We are seeking a Junior Interior Designer under the Temporary Professional Staffing Services contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This project will provide professional staffing services to the Medical and Engineering Department’s capabilities at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). Positions will be assigned to specific sections within the department, including Capital Development, Projects & Construction, Business Management, and Maintenance & Operations, and report to the respective Section Supervisor in support of medical center tasks. The position is on-site, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, based at the LBVAHCS, located at 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822.

So, what will the Junior Interior Designer at Terrestris do?
The Junior Interior Designer is a member of the Major Projects Activation and Interior Design Team at the Engineering Service, Planning Section. Under the responsibility of the VA Interior Designer, the Junior Interior Designer develops deadlines, overall objectives, resources available, and tasks necessary to complete the work. The Junior Interior Designer shall be responsible for independent planning and carrying out the assigned tasks to meet the objectives of the Planning Section, including overseeing and assisting with major project activations, moves, space planning, budgeting, preparing packages for furniture, finishes and equipment purchases, management of delivery, and installation. The completed work shall be reviewed by the Interior Designer to determine its effectiveness in meeting all requirements.
What does a typical day look like for a Junior Interior Designer?
You will:
- Assist in developing interior design solutions
for healthcare and administrative spaces. - Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, plans,
sketches, and design presentation materials. - Analyze architectural drawings and develop
Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E) layouts aligned with building
codes. - Interpret and review plans for compliance with
VA standards and specifications. - Produce procurement packages including SOWs,
specifications, cost estimates, and documentation. - Coordinate procurement activities, vendor
communication, and delivery and installation schedules. - Maintain design resource library, documentation,
and project records for construction projects. - Manage activation activities, including
furnishings, equipment, and supply coordination. - Oversee installation processes, direct crews,
and resolve punch list items. - Coordinate with stakeholders and support project
scheduling and transition planning. - Document meetings, track changes, and support
operational planning improvements.
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have:
- Authorization to permanently work in the United
States without sponsorship. - Associate’s Degree OR 1-3 years of relevant experience. New graduates are acceptable
if supported by internships or practical experience in medical or institutional
environments. - Familiarity with the Patient-Centered Care
culture in healthcare. - Ability to review and interpret blueprints and
specifications. - Skilled in free-form drawing and drawing to
scale when on a job site, measuring for a project. - Expertise with recommendations for the
selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings. - AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint & Outlook). - Must be able to communicate effectively both in
writing and verbally with a variety of contractors, management officials,
vendors, Contracting Officers, and Long Beach staff.
We will be extra impressed if you have:
- Certifications such as National Council for
Interior Design Qualification, Project Management Certification, Evidence-Based
Design Accreditation and Certification, and/or Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design. - Familiarity with Microsoft Project & Revit.
