Job Description

The Sandwich Public Schools has an anticipated opening for a Instrumental Music Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at our Sandwich Middle High School, grades 7-12. This program includes concert band, introduction to band, string ensemble, guitar, and music theory courses. The Instrumental Music Teacher will report to the Principal and shall perform the following duties (but not limited to):


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in Music and Band.

  • Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards.

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • Prepare the classroom for class activities.

  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs.

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

  • Use relevant technology to support instruction.

  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.

  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.

  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.

  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.

  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations.

  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.

  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.

  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.

  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.

  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings.

  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities. 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.

  2. Valid DESE license in Music (All Levels) required.

  3. Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License.


  4. Experience with Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Arts.



  5. Current pedagogy in instrument instruction and music theory.



  6. Dedication to a collaborative educational environment.



  7. Experience with Pep Band and/or Marching Band a plus.



 


FY27 Step 1 Pay Range: $60,617 to $69.950 depending on education/experience.
