Job Description

Position Title: Vice Principal


Reports To: Building Principal/Superintendent


217 Day Contract


 


SUMMARY:


Provides assistance to the principal for instructional leadership to the school community including: curriculum, planning, review and implementation, and professional development. Responsible for assisting the principal for ensuring the safety and welfare of both students and faculty. Maintains open and positive communication with all members of the school community. Assists in facilitating comprehensive school wide annual planning to foster excellence in education.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.


Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance.


Assists with administrative planning, organization, and curriculum development.


Assists with the supervision of records and referrals.


Assists in supervising staff attendance and staff evaluations.


Assists in the management of building staff, including class schedules and building problems.


Assists with scheduling of special events during the school day.


Provides general supervision to students.


Maintains positive relationship with parents and the school community.


 


STUDENT RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES


Monitor student attendance and initiate corrective action in the case of chronic truancy.


Encourage high expectations for student behavior and achievement.


Encourage high student morale.


 


CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT


Assist the involvement of the professional staff in curriculum planning and development.


Assist the supervision of staff in curriculum development.


Assist in the development of building-level program goals.


Assist in the monitoring of program continuity (scope and sequence).


Assist in the development and implementation of a plan for evaluating the effectiveness of the instructional program.


 


STAFF DEVELOPMENT


Assist in the recruiting, screening and assigning of professional staff.


Assist in thorough orientation of new staff.


Assist in the supervision of certified and classified staff as assigned to monitor their compliance with all policies.


Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with staff.


Assist in the review, analysis, and feedback of teacher planning.


Regularly assist classrooms as assigned to assist with improvement of instruction.


Evaluate the professional staff as assigned in accordance with established policies, administrative rules and procedures.


Promote staff development


Be available for staff consultation.


Assist with the communication of high expectations for staff.


 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Certified and Classified staff members


All students


 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience. Candidates must possess a Master's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. The successful candidate must possess or qualify for the appropriate administrative license.


 


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
