Job Description

Position Summary

The Instructor delivers prepared, up-to-date instruction, manages classroom and lab activities, and supports student success through active engagement and retention efforts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses using lesson plans and approved curriculum
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and resources to enhance learning
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and effective classroom/lab environment
  • Monitor student progress and communicate concerns regarding attendance or performance
  • Record and submit attendance, grades, and required documentation on time
  • Provide students with course syllabi and evaluate assignments within established timeframes
  • Assist in curriculum development and evaluation of instructional materials
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to address student concerns
  • Participate in student engagement activities, meetings, and institutional events (e.g., orientation, graduation)
  • Maintain accurate academic records and complete midterm and final evaluations
  • Ensure proper use and accountability of classroom materials and equipment
  • Stay current with institutional policies, procedures, and professional development requirements
  • Support program initiatives, including advisory boards when applicable
  • Arrange for qualified class coverage when required (per policy)
  • Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Health Information Manager 
  • RHIT or RHIA Certification is required
  • Must have completed an accredited HIM/HIT program resulting in an associate degree, bachelor degree preferred
  • Postsecondary teaching experience preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and proactive
