Job Description

Blue’s Closet is the student-run thrift store on campus and we’re looking for the next intern!  This is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on, entrepreneurial experience managing the thrift store. This internship will play a critical role in further developing the thrift store by trying new marketing ideas, expanding awareness across campus, hosting events, and more.  The intern will also partner with the Office of Sustainability to grow our positive environmental impact. Key learnings during the semester will include financial management, marketing strategies, operations, people management, retail management, and solid transferable skills. 

Financial Management 

  • Track sales and expenses 
  • Monitor financial health of the business regularly throughout the semester 
  • Provide profit/loss summaries for each event 

Operational Duties 

  • Solicit donations from students, faculty, staff, community 
  • Prep/plan pop-up events 
  • Recruit and manage volunteers 
  • Sort, clean, prep items to be sold 
  • Develop displays and signage 
  • Plan the details of each event 
  • Prepare payment logistics through eCommerce 
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
  • Seek ways to continuously make the process more efficient and cost effective 

Marketing 

  • Manage social media page and other audience outreach strategies 
  • Spread awareness about Blue’s Closet and events 
  • Educate audiences about reducing clothing waste and related environmental sustainability impacts 

Cross-Functional Collaboration  

  • Serve as the face of Blue’s Closet across campus 
  • Schedule, plan, and lead monthly Mentor Committee meetings  
  • Collaborate with other Bulldog Enterprise interns to share best practices, success stories, and general support. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Current student at Butler University   
  • Passion for environmental sustainability 
  • Self-driven, ability to work independently, problem solver, takes initiative, sets priorities 
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with different audiences, including the Mentor Committee, student groups, campus and community partners 
  • Event planning and implementation skills 
  • Ability to pivot between high-level planning and ground-level operational tasks 
  • Ability to recruit, organize, and direct volunteers 
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.  
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.  
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Junior/Senior student 
  • Interest in retail management, thrifting, trends 
  • Experience with social media platforms and content development 
  • Customer-facing experience 
  • Money and inventory management 
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically Excel
