Manufacturing Engineer Summer Semester Internship
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer Internship Position will provide students with hands-on experience in the Reliability Engineering Group on the TAD Tissue Machine and Powerhouse. The position is designed to give students experience in a manufacturing environment with focus on equipment maintenance and safety. The engineering intern will report to the Senior Reliability Engineer, and will also need to work with mechanics, operators and production supervision.
The candidate’s main project will be to compare area P&IDs with existing process equipment and piping. Any errors in the P&IDs will be redlined and any missing equipment labelling will be replaced. This will include walking down equipment in the field, learning mills safety policies and understanding the facility’s document management system.
Based on the candidates’ interest and experience, other possible work in includes lubrication sampling, an air leak study, preventative maintenance program audits, and a reel spool integrity testing program. The intern may also work on other small projects as well during their work term. These can include creating SOPs, troubleshooting guides, 5S, CIL and other projects identified by the department.
Kruger Products has opportunities for year-long, semester, and summer internships. This internship will last from the end of spring/winter semester to beginning of fall semester (sometime around May 01 - Aug 31,). Those selected for screening will undergo a technical test to ensure competency.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Validate P&IDs and replace missing equipment labels.
- Create documentation of work as required.
- Attend 1:1 meetings with direct manager and actively participate in the mentorship program.
- Work alongside staff in the manufacturing department to complete assigned work.
- Complete all work safely and comply with all of safety policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ideal candidate will have completed 1st or 2nd year mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering bachelor’s degree with a current GPA of 2.5 or greater.
- Self-motivated: able to take ownership of assignments, develop work plans and proactively seek feedback to ensure objectives are aligned and met.
- Must be flexible and responsive to the needs of the department/facility/business.
