Alaska West Express, Inc. is searching for a reliable, motivated individual to direct and coordinate local dispatch operations to include city dispatch, yard activities and related paperwork, communications and customer service activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
- Coordinates freight operations through driver dispatch, equipment maintenance and yard operations.
- Coordinates daily operations through customer communications. Determines work sequence by customer requirements, material shipping dates, type, volume and destination.
- Prepares driver schedules and equipment to maintain compliance with shipment requirements, driver hours of service regulations and scheduling of equipment maintenance to ensure efficient operations.
- Adheres to the safety policy of AWE and complies with the standards set forth by OSHA, federal, state and local laws. Monitors employee compliance with company policy on traffic laws and hours of service regulations.
- Communicate with maintenance personnel to coordinate maintenance and repair service for equipment.
- Directs workers in transportation or related services, such as pumping, moving, storing and loading/unloading of material.
- Generates and processes company documents required for transportation.
- Records, traces and enters information on company computer system as required.
- Tracks and evaluates information and statistics to measure operational performance.
- May assist in special projects as needed.
- Use of a personal mobile device for essential work tasks such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), accessing Dayforce, and receiving time-sensitive communications.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires strong supervisory skills and responsibilities. There may be as many as 20 non-supervisory employees who report indirectly to this position. This position requires strong working relationships with all supervisory personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and direction work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work independently, handle a variety of tasks one at a time and work weekends. Extreme working knowledge of regulatory requirements. Computer skills include Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, OneNote and Access.

Employee must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods (entire shift). Employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required use fingers and handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in AWE Industrial Health and Safety Manual Chapter 2.27 PPE Program, which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, chemical splash suits, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and arctic gear.
