Standard Work: Business Continuity Analyst- Planning and Development: Develop, maintain, and update Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) for critical IT systems, such as electronic health records (EHR), ancillary systems and ERP solutions. Conduct comprehensive Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) focused on healthcare operations to identify critical functions, and assist in prioritizing continuity efforts. Collaborate directly with business/clinical departments and IT teams to define downtime processes and continuity strategies for essential healthcare systems and applications.
- Risk Management and Mitigation: Identify, assess, and analyze potential risks and disruptions to healthcare IT systems, data privacy (PHI), and patient safety. Recommend and direct the implementation of risk mitigation strategies, procedures, and controls.
- Testing and Validation: Plan and conduct regular, rigorous testing and simulations of BCPs, including tabletop exercises and in collaboration with the Disaster Recovery Engineer, full-scale drills, to validate their effectiveness and enhance response capabilities. Meticulously document all test results, identify gaps or ineffective procedures, and collaborate with relevant teams to implement improvements that improve continuity of operations, reduce patient safety issues, and improve organizational resiliency.
- Incident Response and Recovery: Serve as a key point of contact during IT incidents, emergencies, and disasters, to assist with response and support of business/clinical and IT stakeholders. Participate in formal post-incident reviews to identify lessons learned and collaborate with stakeholders to improve and refine response protocols.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all BCP plans and procedures strictly comply with healthcare regulations and standards, including HIPAA, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission. Maintain comprehensive documentation, reports, and metrics related to all business continuity activities.
