Job Description

About the Department

GENERAL PURPOSE 

Perform a variety of unskilled work, at the water plant, which includes sweeping, moping and general clean-up of plant areas, as well as mowing and lawn maintenance.   Regular work hours consist of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch.  

SUPERVISION RECEIVED 

Works under the direct supervision of the lead worker or the Water Plant Supervisor.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES 

Maintains plant site by operating mowers, weed eater, edger, and painting if needed.  Cuts grass and trims shrubs, trees and other vegetation.  Plant, water and maintains landscape areas.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety standards.

Performs required labor involved in projects as part of a crew.

Operates a variety of power tools used in the water treatment plant daily operation.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  1. Some knowledge of Methods, materials and equipment used in general custodial work.
  2. Skills in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment. Examples of these tools are weedeater, mowers, blower, saws, shovels and hand tools.
  3. Ability to perform heavy manual task for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.  

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
