Position Summary
The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals for patients, residents, and staff while ensuring all food is prepared safely, accurately, and in accordance with dietary guidelines. This role plays an important part in supporting patient recovery by providing nutritious meals that meet physician-ordered diets and facility standards.
Working in a healthcare kitchen environment, the Dietary Cook follows strict food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures while maintaining efficiency, organization, and attention to detail. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy cooking, working as part of a team, and contributing to the daily care and comfort of patients in a rehabilitation setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare meals following menu plans, recipes, and special diet instructions
- Ensure food is cooked safely and served at proper temperatures
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines
- Prepare food for modified diets, such as low-sodium meals
- Keep kitchen and food prep areas clean, organized, and stocked
- Assist with tray line, meal service, and kitchen cleanup
- Monitor food supplies and help maintain proper storage and inventory
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and follow facility procedures
- Work as part of a team to support patients, staff, and daily kitchen operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Food Handler Certification required (or ability to obtain after hire)
- At least 1 year of cooking or food service experience preferred
- Healthcare, hospital, or institutional kitchen experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen supplies as needed
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and diet orders
- Ability to work as part of a team with a positive attitude
- Must follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures
- Good organization and time management skills
